Computer Awareness At Kaki Bukit Perlis


The students and their instructors from Online 2020 and CyberFocus	The ice breaking session conducted by Pastor Daniel.

This was the first activity undertaken by the rejuvenated Club.

The trip was very fruitful to both the students and also the instructors from Online 2020 and the CCF group. Online 2020 was represented by the Treasurer, Secretary and Vice President whereas the CCF’s representatives were Daniel Lim and Siaw Kok Tong.

The class began at about 2.15pm with about 15 minutes of ice-breaking conducted by Daniel, with both the students and instructors participating.

There were 8 participants made up of primary school students and teachers trainees. During the class, the students enjoyed themselves with some of them quoting - "Oh!!! This is how they build the web page and now I can build one of my own". There are a lot of enquiries on how to build a homepage for Kaki Bukit. Overall, they are equipped with the knowledge of how the web browser works together with the HTML. They are able to build simple static home page. There are invitations for the group to go back there again in the next school holidays to further train this group to be the future trainers of Kaki Bukit. The request is for the advance level of Perl, ASP, etc, to make the homepage more dynamic and also database interactive.

Reflection from Instructors :-

1) We didn't know that there is a village called Kaki Bukit in Perlis. This is a real village with population of about 2 to 3
   thousands. (according to the students there) Life is really different from the city here.

2) The joy that the instructors gained is from the sparkles from the eyes of the students when they realised that they could do
    this and that with the HTML. Well, there is no other better joy than to see it in the growing youth of village.

3) If god willing, and time permits, we will follow up with the next advance classes of a 3 days and 2 nights camp during the
   next school holidays.

Reflection from Students :-

1) They realised that they too can build home page with HTML. It is not as difficult as they initially think.

2) Excited in learning new technology.

3) Eager to learn more but time does not permit the instructors to stay back as we need to get back to the highway before
    dark as we are not used to the hill, without street lamp and winding road condition from Kaki Bukit to highway.

4) The students are also being exposed to digital camera. Immediately after taking the photograph, they use it to insert into
    their webpage. This is the exposure of advancement in technology.

There is even a suggestion for the future - having a van equipped with PCs and this van will travel to villages to impart IT. However, this will be a long term plan as our immediate plan is for the Bukit Bendera and the clubhouse first.
